The Cornell Halai and East Lokris Project conducted surface survey at the Bronze Age island-site of Mitrou in 1988 and 1989. Much material was picked up on the surface and it was analyzed in detail by Margaretha Kramer-Hajos in a Ph.D. dissertation in Classics at Cornell entitled: “Mycenaean Civilization in East Lokris” (Cornell, 2005). This dissertation was the basis for a book published in 2008:
M. Kramer-Hajos, Beyond the Palace: Mycenaean East Lokris, BAR International Series 1781, Archaeopress, Oxford, 2008.
The results of the CHELP Mitrou
surface were also published in detail in an article in Hesperia
in 2008:
M. Kramer-Hajos and K. O'Neill,
"The Bronze Age Site of Mitrou," Hesperia
77 (2008), pp. 163-250.
In
2004 Cornell joined the Greek Archaeological Service and the University
of Tennessee
in the first season of large-scale excavations at the site of Mitrou. A
preliminary report of the 2004 season
appeared in Studies and Monographs in Mediterranean Archaeology and
Civilization, Volume 7
(featured on-line at www.aegeanarchaeology.org).
