CHELP
conducted surface survey at the
Bronze Age island-site of Mitrou in 1988 and
1989. Much material was picked up on the
surface and it was analyzed in detail by Margaretha T.
Kramer-Hajos in a Ph.D.
dissertation in Classics at Cornell entitled:
“Mycenaean Civilization in East Lokris.”
(Cornell, 2005). Dr. Kramer-Hajos’s work on
the CHELP Mitrou surface survey is to be
published in an article in Hesperia scheduled to
appear soon.
In 2004 Cornell joined the Greek Archaeological Service and the University of Tennessee in the first season of large-scale excavations at the site. A preliminary report of the 2004 season appeared in Studies and Monographs in Mediterranean Archaeology and Civilization, Volume 7 (featured on-line at www.aegeanarchaeology.org).
